A Brief History

A manic artist trained in classical pencil work,
acrylic painting, traditional/three dimensional/
digital animation, comic books, and self taught
in between all that other stuff.

His paintings have been displayed in Stage Nine Nightclub
in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, and has sold many of his
paintings randomly to a large assortment of people from all
walks of life.

Currently he resides in Halifax, and works on several projects
at once. None of which he is willing to discuss until it is TIME.

As per usual.

A Less Brief History

Stephen Guptill - Born circa 1984, July 27.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to a young pastor and piano teacher, named Denn and Angela Guptill
Stephen was quickly wisked away on a gypsies adventure of a life, first living in Saint John,
for 11 months before moving to Truro, Nova Scotia.

At the age of approx. 5 years and 51 weeks Stephen's family moved to the
country of Australia half a world away to settle in Brackenridge, Queensland
then to the community of Kallangur a short distance away.

Starting in Truro; Stephen developed a taste for drawing, discovering with delight one
could render brillient white skeletons with chalk on black construction paper. Around the
same time, Stephen's grandmother Kelly molded an interest in drawing by showing him how to
free hand dupicate his favorite Ninja Turtle's trading cards. His grand mother's ability with
the creation of the image stuck into his mind like glue.

It wasn't until grade 3, in Mrs. Estos class that Stephen really started to latch on to drawing
starting with Mrs. Estos insistence of using black marker outlines to finish a drawing with a quality
look about it his interests flourished.

Soon afterwards a baby sitter named Paulletta Hopkins showed Stephen many, many skate boarding videos
and magazines from the early 90s, combined with her many spray painted murals, as she was also an
accomplished professional artist; this influence pushed Stephen to realize one could make art their life.
Her art work and a small collection of D.C. titles including Justice Leauge International
and Bat Man influenced his young mind in what he produced. It was also around this time that
he met Steve Irwin, the wild Australian crocadile hunter. It was his show that fostered and
nurtered much of the young Guptill's love of nature at an early age.

At the age of 10 the Guptill family once again moved, this time back to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to a town
called Bedford.

In his new North American environment Stephen was granted access to the comic shops of the city which
had not existed in his Australian habitat. Through these stores and other comic fanatic children around
him Stephens artistic drive flourished.

In the following years he attended diverse instructional courses outside of school in the discaplines of
pencil work, acrylic paint and the typical assortment of jr. high and high school art courses.

After graduating from C.P. Allen High School in 2002, Stephen went on to attend and graduate from McKenzie
College's Digital Animation course in 2003, officially giving him the title of animator.
This was cool, but Stephen did not want to work in the ant farm like conditions of the animation industry
nor did he want to draw comic books about super heros that were on a monthly loop of the same story
repeatedly being told over and over again, so he struck out on his own.

Today Stephen resides in his native Halifax, and has a cat named Number Eight.
Currently he is working on a variety of projects, and has full intentions of becoming
a fully fledged Futurist and Philanthropist to fund his wide eyed dreams.
